Stage 0 · A1 découverte

Level A1

Reading your first French words

Decode short French words using sound-spelling patterns already learned, rather than guessing from shape.

Duration: 25 minPrerequisites: se-presenterValidation threshold: 80%

1. Objective

By the end, you will break down a short word, read it left to right and check it against the spelling.

2. I discover

Look at “café”, “métro”, “lune”. Do not start with meaning; first identify letter groups you already know how to read.

3. I understand

To read a new word, move from left to right. Spot familiar groups, blend the sounds, then reread the whole word. If a pattern is new, do not invent it.

Watch out

French spelling is not fully transparent: some letters can be silent. Start with words whose patterns you have already studied.

4. Guided practice

5. Independent practice

6. I write / I speak

Choose five short words around you. Mark familiar groups, read slowly, then reread normally.

7. Check my learning

8. What I remember

Spot → blend → reread. Do not guess a word from its first letter alone.
