son or sont?

Distinguish possessive determiner son from verb form sont in everyday French sentences.

Duration: 25 minPrerequisites: homophones-on-ontValidation threshold: 80%

1. Objective

By the end, you will distinguish son and sont using the étaient test and noun context.

2. I discover

Compare: Son frère arrive. / Ses frères sont là. Which word can become étaient?

3. I understand

son is a possessive determiner: son téléphone, son frère. sont is a form of être with ils/elles: ils sont prêts. Test: if étaient can replace it, write sont; otherwise, before a possessed noun, use son.
