Splitting a word into syllables — practise and choose the right form
A complete lesson on “Splitting a word into syllables — practise and choose the right form” in French.
1. Objective
By the end, you will rebuild a simple word from its spoken syllables.
2. I discover
Put together: ca + fé; vé + lo; cho + co + lat. Then read the whole word smoothly.
3. I understand
Once you can hear the syllables, rebuild the word by putting the chunks in order. This helps you read without spelling every letter: mu + si + que → musique; cho + co + lat → chocolat.
ca + fé → cafévé + lo → véloa + mi → amimu + si + que → musiquecho + co + lat → chocolatté + lé + phone → téléphone
Watch out
The chunks help you read, but in the end you pronounce and write the whole word.
4. Guided practice
5. Independent practice
6. I write / I speak
Produce three new examples that follow the rule exactly, then read them aloud.
7. Check my learning
8. What I remember
Read in chunks, then blend: ca-fé → café; mu-si-que → musique. The goal is the whole word.
9. Now I can…
- I can recognise the feature in new words or phrases.
- I can use it without copying the examples.
