Stage 0 · A1 découverte
Oral vowels
Hear, read and distinguish several French oral vowels in simple words before moving on to nasal vowels.
1. Objective
By the end, you will identify several common oral vowels in simple words.
2. I discover
Read slowly: sac, vite, moto, rue, rouge. Which vowel sound do you hear in each word?
3. I understand
An oral vowel is produced without nasal airflow. Start by hearing and reading clear vowels in short words: a in sac, i in vite, o in moto, u in rue, ou in rouge.
A written letter and a sound do not always match one-to-one. Here the goal is first to hear and read frequent words.
4. Guided practice
5. Independent practice
6. I write / I speak
Produce three new examples that follow the rule exactly, then read them aloud.
7. Check my learning
8. What I remember
Start with reliable anchors: a–sac, i–vite, o–moto, u–rue, ou–rouge. Read the whole word, not only the letter.
9. Now I can…
- I can recognise the feature in new words or phrases.
- I can use it without copying the examples.
