Stage 0 · A1 découverte
Nasal vowels
Recognise an/en, on and in/ain/ein in frequent words and avoid automatically pronouncing n as a separate consonant.
1. Objective
By the end, you will recognise three major nasal-vowel spellings in frequent words.
2. I discover
Read: sans, enfant, bon, monde, pain, matin. Find the letter groups that carry the nasal vowel.
3. I understand
In a nasal vowel, some air passes through the nose and the following n or m is usually not pronounced as a separate consonant. Start with three anchors: an/en in sans, on in bon, in/ain/ein in pain.
When n or m is followed by another vowel, nasalisation may disappear: bon/bonne. Start by learning the model words in this lesson.
4. Guided practice
5. Independent practice
6. I write / I speak
Produce three new examples that follow the rule exactly, then read them aloud.
7. Check my learning
8. What I remember
an/en: sans, enfant · on: bon, monde · in/ain/ein: matin, pain, plein. In these words the group is read as a nasal vowel.
9. Now I can…
- I can recognise the feature in new words or phrases.
- I can use it without copying the examples.
