Money & payments

The national currency is the lek (ALL). Electronic payments are growing quickly in Albania, but keeping some lek is still practical for small purchases and certain services. For conversions, use the official Bank of Albania rate rather than a memorised exchange rate.

À jour en octobre 2026 : Albania has been operational in SEPA since October 2025, and electronic payments continue to develop. This does not mean that the euro replaces the lek for everyday spending.

Phone & Internet

Before leaving, check your operator’s roaming terms: Albania is not a member of the European Union. For a longer stay, compare local mobile offers and keep a data connection for maps, transport information and translations.

Cafés, markets & shops

Coffee is as much a social moment as a drink. At markets and small shops, knowing a few numbers and phrases quickly makes interactions easier.
