Level A1+–A2

The accusative case — practise and choose the right form

Recognise the accusative in simple Albanian sentences and link the noun form to its direct-object function.

Duration: 25 minPrerequisites: rasa-kallezore-kuptoValidation threshold: 80%

1. Objective

By the end, you will recognise several direct objects in the accusative in simple sentences.

2. I discover

Compare: djali vjen / shoh djalin. Does the same noun keep exactly the same form?

3. I understand

The Albanian accusative is used notably for direct objects. In Shoh djalin, djalin is what I see. In Blej librin, librin is what I buy. The form also depends on whether the noun is definite or indefinite.

Shoh djalin.Blej librin.Hap derën.Pi kafenë.Lexoj gazetën.Takova mësuesin.
Watch out

Do not memorise the accusative as one universal ending. Pay attention to gender, declension and definiteness.

8. What I remember

In a simple sentence, ask who/what after the verb: the resulting group is often the direct object and takes the expected accusative form.
