Stage 2 · A1+–A2
The genitive case — use it independently in context
Use the Albanian genitive in common noun phrases to express possession and relationships between nouns.
1. Objective
By the end, you will recognise and produce several simple noun phrases with a possessive genitive.
2. I discover
In dera e shtëpisë, what relationship connects dera and shtëpia?
3. I understand
The Albanian genitive often expresses possession or relationship: libri i studentit = the student’s book; dera e shtëpisë = the door of the house. The particles i/e/të/së are part of the construction with the genitive noun form.
The Albanian genitive does not map word-for-word onto one English preposition or possessive pattern: learn the whole noun phrase structure.
4. Guided practice
5. Independent practice
6. I write / I speak
Produce three new Albanian sentences using the target feature, then check each word form.
7. Check my learning
8. What I remember
Genitive: a relationship between two nouns, often with i/e/të/së + genitive form. E.g. libri i studentit, dera e shtëpisë.
9. Now I can…
- I can recognise the structure in a new sentence.
- I can use it with different vocabulary.
