Stage 2 · A1+–A2
The dative case — identify and understand
Recognise the Albanian dative in sentences where a person receives something or benefits from the action.
1. Objective
By the end, you will identify a dative recipient in several simple sentences.
2. I discover
In I jap librin Anës, who receives the book? Which noun has that role?
3. I understand
The Albanian dative marks, among other things, a recipient or beneficiary. In I jap librin Anës, Anës is the person receiving the book. The dative also occurs with certain verbs and prepositions; its form depends on the noun.
The dative is not simply a translation of English ‘to’. Some Albanian verbs select this case directly.

9. Now I can…
- I can recognise the structure without translating word for word.
- I can reuse it with different vocabulary.
