Level A1

Albanian consonants — identify and understand

Recognise Albanian consonants, especially letters written with two characters such as dh, gj, rr and xh.

Duration: 25 minPrerequisites: zanoret-shqipe-perdorValidation threshold: 80%

1. Objective

By the end, you will recognise several simple consonants and two-character letters in the Albanian alphabet.

2. I discover

Look at dh, gj, ll, nj, rr, sh, th, xh, zh. Each uses two characters, but the Albanian alphabet treats it as one letter.

3. I understand

The remaining Albanian letters are consonants. Several are written with two characters but count as one letter: dh, gj, ll, nj, rr, sh, th, xh, zh. This matters for reading the alphabet and alphabetical order.

Watch out

An Albanian digraph such as gj or xh is not two separate alphabet letters. Keep the pair together when spelling.
